Descendance begun producing theatre style performances in the year 2000 with “Spirits of the Soil”, (Bondi Fringe Festival), The show was a mixture, of contemporary, traditional, and collaborative works with Native American Crow Indians “Big Day

Fusions with other cultures continued with “Portal” (Newtown Theatre 2001), “The Lovers” (Sydney Entertainment Centre 2002), “Flamenco Dreaming” (Riverside Theatre 2004-2005), and “Tree Of Life (2004-2008) “,all the works explored the beautiful symmetry shared when cultures collaborate in both dance and live music, the performances included working with such diverse cultures as, Flamenco, Indian, Middle Eastern, Native American, Asian, Eastern European, and African.

The idea of the fusion works begun in the nineties, when artistic director of (Flamenco Dreaming), Jose Calarco and Sean Choolburra (Naroo Dancers) teamed up for “Antipodes” at the Cat & Fiddle Hotel (Sydney Fringe Festival), the show enjoyed a record breaking three month season before moving to Kinselas, and the Metro Theatre, other shows born from the union were “Sing Awake The Lands” and the epic tribute concert “To India With Love” Sydney Town Hall.

The cultural exchanges have been an invaluable learning experience for Descendance, this has helped the artists to grow as entertainers and people, the experiences have broadened there outlook on dance and life.
