Gwenda Stanley

Gwenda Stanley belongs to the mighty tribe of “Corben Gomeroi” in Moree from the black soil plains of North Western NSW; she also has ancestry in Queensland from the Wakka Wakka tribe through both her maternal and paternal family. Her Grandfather King Billy Wightman was King of the “Dareel” and “Galmarra” tribes and was the song man in the last Corroboree held at Kunopia in the 1930’s. Gwenda grew up in a tin humpy on the Gwydir River (NSW) until the council forced her to move to Stanley Village, like her fore Fathers and Mothers she is a proud Mission girl, Gwenda moved to Sydney at 17 years of age, she spent ten years living in western Sydney then returned home and currently resides on TOP CAMP with her kin and kinship clans. Gwenda is supported by her Elders and Moree Plains Shire Council, from the age of 14 she has been sharing , learning and continuing her unique and rich “Gomeroi” and “Wakka Wakka” Heritage and Culture throughout Australia, educating entertaining and welcoming many dignitaries and school students and tourists from around the world.
